Third type: Light of חסד in the vessel of גבורה 0:03
So now we're going to explain this third type where it's like the light of חסד in the כלי of גבורה. And, by the way, in ספירת העומר when we count חסד of חסד, גבורה of חסד, it says that all of those מדות that we're counting are the מדות of בינה.
So it's חסד of חסד of בינה, חסד of גבורה of בינה. And usually, unless it specifies otherwise, the first time that it makes a division, so when it first divides it into ten, it's talking about the division within the lights. And the next time that it makes a division, it's the lights going into vessels. That's why we usually divide it into ten and then into a hundred.
Right, that's what he said, like, יוד and יוד דיוד.
So the first division is within the light of בינה. The light of בינה itself has חסד, גבורה, תפארת, נצח, הוד, יסוד, מלכות. So that's like the seven weeks. Each week is one מדה within the light of בינה.
Then the particular days, which is the next division, is that light going into the vessel. So חסד of חסד means the light of חסד of בינה going into the כלי of חסד.
And the גבורה of חסד means the light of חסד of בינה going into the כלי of גבורה, and so on. And now we're going to explain that second type where the light goes into the vessel. אמנם, however, הנה יש התכללות מדין בחסד מפני שהוא כמוהו בעצם.
Second type: Light entering the vessel 1:22
There's another type of inclusion of דין into חסד because they are inherently alike. ולא שהוא בטל ממהותו, and not that it it loses its its nature. אדרבה, נותן בו תוקף ועוז.
Not only does it not oppose, not only does the דין not oppose the חסד and need to be nullified by the חסד, but it actually helps the חסד, and it gives strength to the חסד. ועם כל זה, and nevertheless, it's נקרא גבורה שבחסד. It's still called גבורה of חסד. וכן
להיפך, also the opposite, חסד שבגבורה, there is also the idea of חסד of גבורה, שנותן כח בגבורה ובדין וכולי. There's a type of a חסד that not only doesn't not oppose the גבורה and need to be nullified by it, and not only when they come together does it not like doesn't one not temper the other one, like when you add sugar to to cocoa, so that it's true that the sugar overpowers the cocoa and makes everything the whole thing sweet if you add enough sugar, but it's a fight, and at the end of the day, chocolate is not as sweet as regular sugar.
There's a certain compromise that goes on there. And so it brings out the sweetness in a way it's better, but it's not really as sweet. It's not like pure sweetness.
So it's a certain compromise that goes on there. Here, there's no compromise. Not only is there no compromise, but it actually strengthens the it. חסד שבגבורה שנותן כח בגבורה ובדין וכולי. והענין הוא, כידוע, and the ענין is, as is know, is known, על דרך, like it says in the פסוק, אם רעב שונאך האכילהו לחם, כי גחלים וכולי.
Feeding the enemy: hidden judgment 3:07
It says, if your enemy is hungry, feed him bread, because it's like coals for his soul. So what is it saying? It's saying that sometimes the biggest דין you can do for somebody, the worst thing you can do for a person is be nice to them.
For example, if your enemy is starving, so the פשוט פשט is just that the fact that he has to take bread from you, that he that he has that you're supporting him, is like is like totally eats him up.
It's like the worst thing for him in a way. Then there's deeper things that it refers like your יצר הרע, that if your יצר הרע is is hungry, like and which mainly that it wants to be a יש, wants to be bigger, so you should feed it bread, which is the idea of תורה.
And you say, oh don't worry, come, we'll make you a big מציאות, we'll make you a rabbi, we'll teach you all this תורה, even better, we'll even teach you the secrets, teach you חסידות, and we'll make you a big guy, you'll know everything. And he thinks it's going to get all blown up, but really it destroys the יצר הרע totally.
And it makes it makes him do תשובה. Another example of this is is a spy, that the spy acts nice and is friendly with the enemy, but that itself makes it the most powerful דין. Makes it like the the worst enemy, that it's the worst thing you can do is to be nice to a person and get buddy-buddy with him and know all their secrets, whatever, and then stab him in the back.
Spy example: kindness as covert judgment 4:41
So it's really the most treacherous thing, it's the biggest גבורה, even though externally it seems like a חסד. And really what this is, is the אור of חסד coming into the כלי of גבורה.
And that's that's what we're going to say, we're going to explain that that's the this is the reason that it doesn't oppose it,
because it's the light within the level of like the light, so then חסד and גבורה oppose each other. Within the level of the כלי, חסד and גבורה oppose each other. But the light of חסד coming into a כלי of גבורה doesn't, is not a contradiction. Not only is it not a contradiction, but it's in a way the most powerful כלי for it, because it's like hidden.
And another example for this is, yeah, somebody saying that he knew, I think I think it was an Iranian, he said that that what they would do is if they had a, like an employer had an employee that he really hated, so he wouldn't just fire him. He would first give him a raise.
And they would, for a while, they'd, you know, give him a lot of money and tell him he's such a great, you know, worker and he's worth so much to the company, and they'd pay him a lot.
And then, after he got in his head that he was this bigger guy and should be making a lot of money and got used to having that extra money, then they would fire him. They'd say, "You know, really you're a great asset, whatever, but we just can't afford to have you," and they'd let him go.
So then for the rest of his life, he wouldn't be happy with less, taking less money, and it makes it much harder for him to get a job because he thinks he's worth more than he's worth.
So in a way, they totally like ruined him. הרי בחסד וטוב זה עושה לו רע ודין גמור. So in this kindness and good that he's doing for him, he's really doing a complete evil to him and complete judgment, דין, judgment on him, לאבד נפשו, to totally destroy his soul.
Which is one of the things that like if you, by it says that that if your enemy is starving and you feed him, so then, you know, that that that if you were mean to him, so then he wouldn't be judged so badly, because he's mean to you and you're mean to him. But the fact that you're nice back makes it like he's the only bad one and then he gets totally punished.
Divine reward as ultimate judgment 7:37
וכן משלם לשונאו כדי להאבידו. Similarly it says that God pays his enemies, he gives them their reward in this world so that he'll be able to totally destroy them in the next. So by like giving reward to the wicked in this world, it's really, it looks like he's being nice to them, but it's really a total דין, because he's just totally finishing them off.
Because the the more that they'll have an opportunity to go after their bad things and totally destroy themselves to the point where they'll be beyond repair.
It's like, you know, if you if you like really hated somebody, like it says somebody that hates his, somebody that spares the rod spoils the child, you know? Somebody that like hates his, like it says somebody that hates his son doesn't give him rebuke.
But if a person like really wanted to ruin somebody, they would just spoil them, and just give them whatever they want, and money, whatever, and just let them get totally if if they were like, you know, especially if they were a little rotten already, and they would just totally get into, you know, bad habits and and just sink into like total
totally incapacitated. This, that would be the אור of גבורה in the כלי of חסד, yeah. So that חסד is really a total דין. וכהאי גוונא כל בחינת דין ועונש שנעשה בבחינת חסד,
and this is like the case with any דין and עונש, any sort of judgment or punishment that is done in a way of חסד, that the חסד is the way that they're being punished, הרי הוא עז ותוקף הדין ביותר, this is the strongest דין possible. ונקרא חסד שבגבורה, and this is also called חסד שבגבורה.
חסד שבגבורה: compromised strength 9:31
So before when we spoke of חסד שבגבורה, it would mean that like, well, even though I hate him, but I don't hate him so much because there's some good to him. It's like a compromise. But here it's not a compromise, it's the opposite, it's even stronger. וכמו והשמיע ה׳ את הוד קולו במחנה סנחריב.
Like it says that that Hashem made heard his the glory of his voice in the camp of סנחריב. So here He destroyed the camp of סנחריב by giving them a big גילוי אלוקות.
He killed them all by giving them a big גילוי אלוקות, which is like a big חסד, and it even says this שם ה', which is the name of חסד.
But because it was too big of a גילוי, so they all were בטל and they all died. So it was a way of doing a דין.
And in a way it was like the worst דין, because it it it totally like showed their exposed their their evil, and how like they they really they have no existence, because their whole thing is oppose God, and ה' revealed how it's really like only he's the real true מציאות, and it like totally destroyed their מציאות.
