Mind Rules the Heart: Understanding the Connection 0:00

אך עם כל זה nevertheless המדות שבלב הן בדמיון ממש אל המדות שבשכל ממש ממש כאופן התפעלות במוח בלי נטייה כקוצו של יוד כידוע. Even though it changes from an intellect to an emotion, nevertheless, your מדות are exactly according to your understanding, with and it doesn't doesn't even diverge by the tiniest drop. Your heart is never going to run away and go off on its own, because it doesn't know where to go.

Needs your mind to tell it where to go. Once it tells it, so then it it goes and runs with it farther than the mind would have gone with it. In other words, once your mind says it's a good thing, the heart will say, "All right, it's a good thing, all the way good," and it runs and it says, "That's it, I love it, I'm going to go do it."

And the mind says, "Oh, wait a minute, wait a minute, you know," but the heart's like, "Too late, you already told me it's good, I'm going." That's what happened it can happen that what if if your mind tells your heart that it's a good thing, so then your heart kind of gets excited in a way that like even in a way that is irrational, but it's never going to have an an emotion that's different than what your understanding is.

And that is the whole one of the basic premises of חב״ד, חסידות is that is since מוח שליט על הלב, your mind controls the heart, and your actions are according to your emotions, so you should go to the root of the problem and change your understanding. And if you change the way that you understand things, automatically you'll change the way you feel towards things, and automatically you'll change the way you act towards things.

Changing Your Understanding Changes Your Emotions 1:25

So that's the best way to change yourself. כידוע רק שבלב באין בשינוי המהות ובהגבלה וצמצום דבחינת נצח והוד דבינה, only that in the heart it gets changed and becomes limited through the צמצום of נצח and הוד of בינה, which is the idea of the ובכן, שהוא שליחות שפע אור ההשגה בעצם בשביל השפעת המדה לבד כידוע, that התפעלות המדה לבד כידוע, that this is when the mind is figuring out how should I react based on this idea.

So it's just this is the part of your intellect that figured out the ובכן, the idea of the of תבונה like we explained before, which is like only the חיצוניות of the שכל. ומדות שבלב כולל מג׳ מדרגות חב״ד חג״ת נה״י, and when a person has the מדה in their heart, there also has a full פרצוף of חב״ד חג״ת נה״י, דהיינו בחינת המושכל, מורגש, ומוטבע הנ״ל, like we explained in the last chapter that there's the intellect of the emotion, the feeling of the emotion, and the like natural impulse or or reflex of the emotion, the way that it sinks in, the way that what what effect it has on you.

So the מושכל of it is that you're thinking why you're excited, that you you're thinking, "Oh, he did," you know, if somebody punches you, you say, "Oh, he punched me, I'm so," right? And then there's the feeling of it is that you get all hot, and your breathing gets, you know, like say like you breathe fire from your nose, your breathing gets heavy and and quicker, and you know, you take deep breaths and get your heart starts pumping, and your blood gets boiling and everything, you turn red.

So that that the feeling there's a certain feeling of of of it. And the מוטבע is the the reflex is really some of these things, the fact the the physical change that it makes in your body, your muscles tense up, and the the way that it affects your body, which is how part of how you feel it. In other words, the feeling of being angry comes along with physical changes that get your body ready to like run away or or fight with somebody.

The Three Layers of an Emotion 3:22

הנ״ל. You know, I mean really it's like getting, you know, it's really gets a person ready to kill somebody. That's really what it is. You know, a person gets angry, I mean nowadays the people, you know, it's usually tamer and people are usually aren't in these kind of situations, but it's really for like even all the way to that extreme that whatever you need to do if this guy is dangerous, is going to hurt you, then you have to be get rid of him.

That's like what it's trying to get you ready to do. If you're fear, you'd run away; for anger, you want to kill the person.

Maybe it doesn't come out that far because you don't want to get arrested or whatever, but but really that's what the emotion wants to do.

וג׳ כלים בכל אחד, and each one, the מושכל, מורגש, and מוטבע has three כלים: פנימיים, ואמצעיים, וחיצוניות כנ״ל באריכות explained at length in the last chapter, so you have nine. Three times three is nine.

אך הנה גם בחינת החיצוניות דכלים דנה״י שבלב, but even the external vessels of the נה״י of the heart, so we explained that the חב״ד of the emotion goes into the right side of the heart, and the חג״ת of the emotion goes in the left side of the heart, and the נה״י is in the lungs.

So even the external vessel of נה״י of the heart, שהוא בחינת התפעלות החסד והאהבה שבלב כשבא לידי השפעה לחוץ שנקרא נה״י דחזה, which this is the excitement of the heart when it comes like a thing of love love, like a חסד and love, when it comes to outside in the נהי of the of the chest, of the lungs, the מחשבה דיבור ומעשה, in thought, speech, and action.

In other words, what does that mean? There's the way that your lungs become now a vessel for to make you think, speak, and do. So the most obvious is like you feel that it comes to speaking, so the emotion is expressed in your voice, that you hear the emotion in the voice.

Lungs as the External Vessel for Emotion 5:21

And then, but also your thought gets a certain emotional background based on the feeling it gets from how fast you're breathing. That changes different things in your body, and oxygen levels, whatever, and that's how you know what emotion goes along with what you're thinking, because there's different ways. You can have different tones of voice within your own thoughts, also.

And how fast you breathe sets like the rhythm, and like when you're breathing fast, then you're thinking faster, and it makes like a rushed feeling, different, and then there's also in the action.

You know, some When a person's like happy, they like do things like in a light, relaxed way, and you know, kind of bouncy. And when a person is angry, they're tense, and jerky, and And that that that that comes mainly in the change in your lungs, how fast you're breathing. היינו על ידי חיצוניות הכלי דלב, this is through the external vessel of the heart, which is the lungs, שהוא בחינת המוטבע, which is the thing that makes it the emotion sink in, or like the reflex of the emotion, אשר בהבל החזה דז״א, which is in the breath of the chest of ז״א.

In other words, that in your breath, your breathing, there is a change based on your emotions. דז״א דאצילות, דעל זה אמר, that about this it says, איהו וגרמוהי חד. In other words, that the emotion makes an effect all the way to the חיצוניות vessel of נהי of ז״א. And that comes directly from your intellect, which comes directly from your רצון and תענוג. And so, whatever your your רצון and תענוג is, is felt in your lungs, in how you're breathing and everything, and that's what, you know, you feel different emotions based on that.

That's the the day-to-day of things, of how you feel, what mood you're in, and and, you know, how tense you are and everything, and all that kind of stuff is all affected. In that way, it's connected all the way back to your רצון, right? So it's ממש one. הכל עדיין בבחינת אין סוף. It's its own way of אין סוף, meaning that it's still, like in the משל, that it's still under your control.

That you're a בעל בחירה still, to control it. And this is like why like the a person's it can affect their health. Their physical health can be affected by their their mental state, because a person gets angry, it's bad for their heart, because it changes the way their, you know, heart and lungs are working and stuff. And that's why they say laughing is good for you and, you know what I mean, because it makes physical changes that are good for your body.

Desire, Intellect, and the Flow to the Heart 8:04

And the same thing in the נמשל. Well, let's first do the משל before you do. וכמו על דרך משל באדם התחתון, just like in a person, כאשר הרצון העצמי שבבחינת מקיף דיחידה עליו, when a person's essential רצון in their יחידה, מאיר בו בגילוי במוחין דחכמה ובינה, shines into their intellect, in the חכמה ובינה, that they figure out what they want and how to get it.

And based on that, they know what things are going to help them get their goal, what things are not going to help them help them, they're going to make it harder for them to get their goal, which is the מדות of the מוחין. עד שיורד איזה התנוצצות בקצוות המוחין דכלי דנצח והוד דחסד,

מורגש שבלב, until the בחינה of that, which the קצוות of מוחין, just the little point of it, not the reason why, comes into that this is good and this is bad, that comes into their heart, and they feel it, that this is good and this is bad, because they understand that this is going to help them to their goal, and based on the רצון of what they want.
