Vessel Transforms to Relate to Physical World 0:02
That's the one aspect of the vessel is that it changes and becomes now something that can relate to the physical things, because the soul can't relate to the physical world.
וכהאי גוונא בכח הצמיחה רוחניות שמורכב ומלובש בצמיחה גשמיות בגשם הצומח. And the same thing with the power of growth, the spiritual power of growth, which then goes into the physical power of growth, which is a whole, you know, process, a whole physical, chemical, biological process. There's like these chemical reactions going on, there's little bacterias that take the nutrients apart and make them into different things, and there's a whole thing of how it works with the light, and the chlorophyll, and, you know, photosynthesis.
Well, we do and we don't. With all things it's impossible to know a spiritual That's the whole point. This is what the thing that he explains in פרק א', that you can't get the depth without getting the length and the width. You have to start with the length always. Why? Because the length is where it gets brought down into a משל, which is a or an example that's practical and tangible that you can actually know.
But you can't just directly give over the light, the depth, without, you know, without because it's it's it's abstract. It's בלי מהות, right? So you so you have to give a particular physical tangible example and from that extrapolate the light.
So the same thing, we we do know what the we know what the idea of like intellect is, we know what the idea of seeing is, we know we understand that what the spiritual concept of is behind it. And then we, you know, but but we understand it by seeing it in particular inter- examples.
In other words, yeah, the idea of growth of of of, you know, we understand that as being separate from the process that that makes it work, because, you know, it could be that why it could work differently. It wouldn't be a problem. You know what I mean? You could let's say you you you could it could grow differently, instead of working in the way it works, it would work in a different way.
Well, so what? What do we care? You know what I mean? Doesn't like have to be like that, you know, theoretically. So I'm saying, that's we see that the the spiritual concept of growth doesn't have to, you know, the the the the physical process is just a means, a tool that allows for that process to exist. The fact that there's like the carbon, and the light, and I don't know, all these different things, the nitrogen, and the water, and oxygen, and the carbon dioxide, and, you know what I mean?
Yeah, it's just, yeah, that's really irrelevant. That's not the real thing of growth. The real thing of growth is just something that builds itself and, you know, multiplies itself and makes itself bigger.
The way the world works now, yeah, it would it would make something grow. But the question is two things. First of all, like, you know, when you see a tree growing, where do you think it's where does it think it's going? Like why is it why is it growing?
Why Does a Tree Feel Compelled to Grow? 3:06
It's true that that's how it's growing, because this and this the light and whatever, there's a whole physical thing they can explain to you how it's growing, but why is it growing? There is an inherent רצון that it that that makes it want to grow. It's you know what I mean? It has a you know, that's what they call טבע, that it has like this רצון that's higher than טעם ודעת, that has no reason, that just for no reason it wants to do that.
Why would it want to do that? That's not a physical thing, that property, that's a spiritual soul, that there's a certain like drive in it, but that is enclothed into physical world, and it be- it's like becomes like the nature of the physical world. But that nature is not like a it doesn't have a physical explanation.
That's just they say that's what they Whenever they say nature, that's what they mean. They mean, oh, it is a spiritual thing that is beyond the physical world and which we don't have an explanation for it, it's just the way it is.
Yeah, and they don't realize what that, you know, the philosophical implications of that word. But that's what it is. Science doesn't tell you why, it just tells you how.
Anyway, but the main point is that it becomes physical growth, because the the concept of growth will not actually grow particular plants, whatever, but the physical power of growth will.
That's the one ענין. So the one ענין is that it goes from being spiritual to physical. It changes its מהות. It changes from being a spiritual entity to being a physical entity. והב' is the second thing that goes on when the light goes into the vessel is ענין ההגבלה בשיעור שבחומר הכלי. מוגבל ונמדד בשיעור that
Light Enters Vessel and Faces Material Limitation 4:41
that when it goes into the vessel, the vessel has certain limitations that it imposes on the power, on this light. So now it is limited according to a certain way, as measured and whatever, כמו בראיה גשמית it's like physical sight, עד ס' מילין וכו', you can only see up to 60 miles, right?
What this means exactly, now seemingly, what do you mean you can only see up to 60 miles? I can see the stars and the Sun, which are much farther than 60 miles away.
And I think if you go up on a mountain high enough, you can see farther than 60 miles away.
So, yeah, like it it's it's probably it prob- I'm not sure exactly, but but it probably is has something to do with the the fact that, like we're saying about it, that your eye only has a certain number of sensors, and so you only have so much definition, and so there's only, you know, you so so eventually if something's far enough away,
for like a given size, you won't be able to see it because it will the light from it will go in between the sensors on your eye and it won't you won't see it at all.
Oh, no. But I think I think what I figured out, though, is that when he says you can only see up to 60 miles, I think what he means is that that that's the maximum depth perception that you can have. I think that he might mean that.
Because anything after a certain distance will seem flat to you, like the horizon seems flat, like a backdrop. You can't really tell like how which mountain is farther away, you know what I mean?
Because you tell depth perception with the distance between your two eyes, and like a couple other tricks, but eventually when it gets far enough away, those things become not efficient. And so like for example, the stars and the Sun and Moon, the Sun and the Moon look like they're the same distance away. So it could be that that you know, nothing you can't really see something as being farther than 60 miles away.
The yeah, the main thing is that that that there are physical limitations to the power of sight. Exactly what limitation he's talking about, I can you know, it doesn't say explicitly, so I can only try to figure it out, but that's the point, is like physical sight, if you go look in science books or whatever about it, and ask doctors about it, they'll tell you all the different limitations of physical sight.
You can only see a very narrow a very narrow wavelength of light that your eye is receptive to. Visible light is a tiny wavelength of electromagnetic you know radiation wavelength spectrum, you know what I mean? And you can only see certain colors, and you can only see certain brightnesses, and like there's always limitations.
Also, you you can you know, it takes a certain amount of time for your eye your only eye only takes a picture every like 16th of a second or something like that, because it takes time for every time the light hits your eye, it triggers a chemical reaction that makes you see, but then it takes time for it to reset to be able to see again. And there's all these kind of limitations.
וכן ענין השכלת ותנועת הגשם נתפשטים בהגבלה מצומצמת דווקא
So too with your intellect and your movement that when they become in the physical vessel of your body, they are limited. דווקא They are specifically are very limited. עד שיכלה כוחם המוגבלת
And then there's a certain point where they will fail, they're that your your ability was used up. כמו שתיקצר גשם השגת כלי המוח like sometimes your brain just can't understand. ויכלה כוחו מצד קוטן הכלי and it will just its ability will just be used up because the vessel is not big enough. In other words, that that that first of all, a person, you know, you have to develop your brain.
Developing the Brain as a Muscle 8:55
It's a it's like a muscle, you know, like you exercise and it becomes more better at thinking. And so there's a certain point where an idea is just is too complicated for the brain, and so your brain is not able to handle it. Right, you have to like exercise your brain to make it more more fine, so it's sensitive enough to be able to handle it. Or it could be there's too much information for it to handle at once, right, your brain can only deal with so much information at one time.
And then there's the thing of like how long you can think for, like your attention span. All these things are not just you know, it's actually physical things. Like little kids do not have as much brain capacity as somebody that's, you know, and the more a person develops it, you know, in certain parts of your brain, like you can develop and be better at that area, and it's a physical thing.
And a person can actually like hurt themselves if they don't rest their brain and they think too hard, they, you know, can like have I mean I don't know what tech- like what the technical medical thing, but they can kind of like have a nervous breakdown or whatever and like kind of fry their brain, you know. I mean if they don't rest it properly, they push it too hard,
stuff like that. You know, and plus every now and then, you just need, you know, your your brain needs to rest and sleep and do different things to reset. וכן יקטן ויופסק כח תנועה גשמית שמכח היד בפעולה או בהגבלת משא כהאי גוונא מצד הגבלת הכח המניע. So too, your power of movement is too small sometimes, and it will stop, like when you're doing something, eventually your your hand gets tired or just can't do it, or something lifting something is too heavy for it, and you just can't do it.
Physical Movement Limits and Fatigue 10:19
It's too small. And this is because of the power of movement, you know, that there are certain things that are just you can't move in certain ways first of all, and then there's only a certain amount of strength you have, and there's only you can only do, you know, you can only do like move it so fast, and you can only move it so hard, and, you know, there's different limitations.
