Analogy of the previous chapter and its point 0:02
והנמשל מכל הנ"ל, now the analogue, the real point of everything that we said until now. Not really everything, just the last, you know, chapter. יובן בבחינת רושם שנשאר בחלל ומקום פנוי וכולי, it's understood about the impression, cuz remember we were we were talking about the קו the last chapter, but we also were talking about how the קו can come out from the רשימו. That was the question, right?
Is how do you get a קו out of a רשימו? The problem is that a רשימו is a complete העלם where everything's hidden, and a קו is a גילוי. How can you start bringing the light out from the רשימו in the way of a קו if it's totally hidden? We said that they're not really opposites, because if you take a bunch of points, you put them together, you get a line.
Rather, a point is like a כח ההיולי, it's like an the essence of what everything is built out of. And so the fact that it doesn't have גילוי or התפשטות is not because it can't be מגלה, but because it's the essence where everything comes out from, so it could be מגלה anything. So therefore, doesn't come out in any particular way. Like a point, you can make lines out of.
But when you just have a point, you can do anything with it. So what's the נמשל? So the ענין of the רשימו, the ענין of like that השם makes a צמצום in a way of a סילוק where He hides His whole אור. What does it mean His אור, it means that He hides Himself. He hides His עצם. You don't see as being His עצם, you see it as being something separate from His עצם.
Divine concealment (צמצום) creates empty potential 1:18
So השם hides His עצם and leaves something that looks like it's a separate thing. And you just like have those אותיות. So this is the idea that השם made a צמצום and He left a חלל ריקן ומקום פנוי, meaning that He left a potential like have someplace something like appear separate from Him. But in that, there's left like the In that potential to create a world and everything is all the different possible things that God could make, but just seen as something separate, like the way that they would be, the form of how they would be.
That's the idea of the רושם. So practically for us, like when you look at the world, you're just seeing the רשימו when you see it as being something separate, that you look at the world and you don't see its connection to God, and it just like it seems like this this isolated point, points that are like separate. שהוא יו"ד דס"ג בציור יו"ד כמו שכתוב בספר עמק המלך.
Okay, this is a kabbalistic digression and that's why it's in parentheses, which this this רשימו is the יו"ד of the name ס"ג. In other words, if you spell out The way you spell out ס"ג is
יו"ד ה"י וא"ו ה"י. So the last יו"ד of the last ה"י is the idea of the רשימו. How does this work? The way it works is at first השם made the צמצום made the צמצום in a way that's round, meaning that He removed His עצם אור in a way that's like the the אור that's בלי גבול. Said there's two parts to צמצום: there's the סילוק of the אור בלי גבול, there's a מיעוט of the אור הגבול.
Round concealment then square formation of letters 2:57
There's something called עולם המלבוש, the world of the לבוש. And that's a square מקיף. That's like the שורש of the ענין of a טלית, and a סוכה, and all these things that are square, they have a square מקיף. So the first square מקיף it says that השם, first He made this צמצום in the way of a round צמצום. Then inside the מקום פנוי, השם made the השערה of how everything would be, and it says that that was like a square woven of letters.
In other words, that's all the אותיות, which the שורש of the אור הגבול, the שורש of ממלא כל עלמין, the השערה of everything that God could make in the world. And those are the שמות ע"ב, ס"ג, מ"ה, ב"ן in the corner. First there's ע"ב, and then next to it is ס"ג, and then מ"ה, and then ב"ן. Those are the four corners. Then, it says השם took that square and He folded it over onto itself, and each letter paired up with another letter, and then it became like hidden when it was paired up with the other letters.
Folding letters reveals the lingering יו"ד (רשימו) 4:17
That like hid it. But the only thing is that the שם ב"ן only has nine letters, and the other three שמות have 10 letters. So when שם ב"ן was paired up with שם ס"ג, cuz מ"ה paired up with ע"ב and then ב"ן paired up with ס"ג, so when He folded it over, the last יו"ד of the letter ס"ג didn't have a pair, so it was left sticking out.
And that is the רשימו, is that יו"ד. Now you should know that this is there's two רשימו's really, because first there's the circle the circle צמצום, which leaves a רושם in the middle of the חלל. Then that רושם that's left in the middle, it says השם blew up into the square, and then He folded it over, and then He left this יו"ד which is another נקודה, which is now at the top corner of the circle, because it's on that far corner touching the circle, right?
And the קו comes down from that point. That's the starting point of the קו. So did you ever like did you ever wonder how the רשימו got from the middle to the top for the קו to come out from it?
I always wondered that, and this this is how. Cuz it says that it's like left in the middle, this point in the middle, but then it says the קו is coming out from it, the קו is coming from the top. So I'm like, what's going on? How did it get from the middle to the top? The other thing is if you look in תניא, in what is it, פרק מ"ה I think, it says something about סילוק, that there is השם was מצמצם His אור to one side, לצד אחד.
Why does he say to one side? He should have said to all sides, right? Cuz it's a circle, it's like around everywhere. So the answer is cuz there he's talking about this square צמצום, where it's to folded over to one side. He's gonna explain about the square stuff later, when he talks about בינה. What was it, מ"ד, מ"ה? This is all parentheses.
That was our kabbalistic digression for those that are interested. שהוא בחינת היולי כולל כל מה שיתסעף ממנו על ידי הקו וכולי.
So this רושם is a היולי that includes everything that's gonna come out from it in the קו וכולי. But everything that's coming out of the קו וכולי is just a גילוי of what was already hidden in the רשימו. It's not something new, it's just bringing out particular things. Like the משל of the teacher, that all of his knowledge is hidden in his mind, you know, you have a רושם, so all of his knowledge is is his memories, and then he brings out particular explanations, and each one is like a little קו.
Hidden knowledge revealed through individual lines 6:25
But those are just being מגלה out from his, you know, all of his knowledge in different ways, putting together in different ways. And you could really put it together in infinite ways, which is why it's a היולי, because just like you can take the lot the points and put them together in any shape, so the same way that, you know, the the אותיות that he knows, he can arrange in in all different shapes.
וגם שנתעלם כולל האור העצמות כללות האור העצמות,
but even though that the general אור of the עצמות was hidden by the צמצום, עד שלא נשאר רק בחינת רשימו, until only an impression was left, so you don't see in these אותיות the whole point of the צמצום is that now you should be able to get have the אותיות in a way that you can give them over to somebody that's a student. So you should see them as being independent from the teacher's mind, because the teacher before the צמצום he you don't see the letters of his knowledge being separate from his mind.
It's you know that he understands it, this is what he understands, and like it's all one thing. But now he just takes that information and makes it like it's independent from him and so he can now explain it to you, and you don't have to be him and you don't have to understand everything, and he can just tell you the facts. But it really has it the knowledge hidden in there, but it's now like in a way where it seems separate.
And the same way like the נמשל is like our that the world In other words, that God makes it look like it's it's a separate thing, but really it's ממש God Himself. It's ממש
the עצמות. The צמצום is not כפשוטו, and that means in the נמשל that really everything is God before the צמצום. What does that mean? But the צמצום is not like a place. The צמצום is just, you know, that that is the reality. How The question is how did does it look like it's separate? It only looks like it's separate, cuz it's not כפשוטו. So השם made a צמצום.
God is כל יכול and so He hid the fact that it's Him, and so now you just see it as Cuz God also has the power of both. First of all, God can make it show you what it what it would be like if He wasn't there, and He can also make Himself be like a limited way. So, yeah, so you see different stuff, and the point is not that it's so much that it's different, cuz you could see different stuff and still see it as being God, but you don't see it as being connected to Him anymore.
And this is what God wanted is that you shouldn't see it as being essentially connected to Him. But how do you see it being connected to Him? Through the קו. What's the idea of the קו? The idea of the קו is like is His בחירה, that that He's controlling it, and that He The fact that He's changing things and like from the order, you see that there's a God there.
Like the person's body, the fact that the soul controls the body reveals his עצם in the body. You You see that there's a person there, even though the body is totally a separate thing that's not a soul at all. Right, the movements show that there's an intellect, there's emotion. You see it in the body. That's the idea of the קו. If you If you take the person at any one second You look at their body in its state at that moment, it is a dead, physical thing.
Body and soul analogy; time as bridge 9:57
And the next moment, it's still dead, physical thing. The soul is never revealed in the physicality of the body. That's what why the reason why time is like the intermediary between עולם and נפש.
Because the way that that the godliness of the world, since it comes in a קו, the soul is revealed through the changes that happen in the world.
And so, the same way that you see like the vitality, which the you know, the godliness in the world, that you see that there's like a רצון, and there's like a higher being, and there's an intellect, and whatever, you see that mainly from the changes that happen like over time. You see that how everything is working, and it's being run with like a purpose, and you know.
And even just in one moment, you see it from the fact that there's so many, if you contrast all the differences between things, that is also shows you like a נפש. So, first, you have to see how you would see it as being separate, that you see it as being a tree. That's it, it's an isolated point. A tree is a tree, you know, a squirrel is a squirrel, and in general, you can look, the world is a world.
First of all, there is just the very fact that there is like an existence that's separate is just a point. But then already already once you're seeing a tree, you're already seeing a קו, cuz you already see that it was put in a certain form, it's already a bunch of points. There's the roots, and the trunk, and the branches, and there's a lot of, there's infinite points.
So, you already see that there's like a big intellect there, and there's a purpose, and there's like, you know, and and from the the differentiations, you already see that there's something higher. Yeah, you're putting the points together into a tree. So that's already making a קו. But for sure, once you start looking at like how everything in the world, the bigger the the more that you put together, the more you start to see.
Nature’s actions illustrate divine purpose 11:41
When you start seeing the relationship, like the symbiotic relationship between the trees, and the animals, and the bugs, and like, you know, like squirrels going and like burying The other day I saw a squirrel burying a acorn. What does it think it's doing? I don't know what it thinks it's doing. Like it's officially like people say they're like hiding them for like after the winter, you know what I mean?
And so they go running around grabbing acorns and digging a little hole and burying it, you know, it's kind of cute the way they do it. But the problem is that they don't remember where they put them.
So, they can't find them after the winter. So, say that they get lucky and they find some, but it's not like they remember. So, it can't be that the reason that they do it is for themself, cuz they don't remember where they do it. Like what's the point of burying them if you don't remember?
They're really doing it God דווקא makes them that they want to go hide them, and then they forget, so that they plant the trees for for the you know, they work for the tree. They carry the seeds around, they bury them, plant them.
You know, and if you look at the way that like everything in the world, there's all these bugs and like you know, bacteria, and all kinds of different things, and they all do stuff. You know, it's like these little workers, you know what I mean? Like sometimes like you know, some crumbs on my floor, and like I see ants going and taking it, like it's like God sends these little cleanup crew guys to come in and take out the stuff, you know.
That's what it's like. Like they have their job, and when there's like leftover you know food and stuff like that left around, they go and take it away, and turn it into something useful.
