Introducing Analogies and Metaphors 0:03
Now, we are going to give you some analogies and metaphors and allegories and examples. והדמיון בזה ידוע בכחות הנפש בהתגלות מרצון אל המעשה. The likeness for this, for this idea of how of of יחיד that is higher than everything, higher than 10 ספירות and yet it has 10 ספירות in it.
So we can know, like a likeness for this from the powers of the soul, the way that they are revealed from the desire all the way until action.
That there's a whole little השתלשלות, a whole process that goes on when you're doing something. First you want to do it and then you think about how to do it.
Then you talk to yourself or to other people about how to do it and then you actually do it. You have emotions about it, intellect about it. It's a whole process. 10 10 powers.
שישנם כולם בפרט בהעלם אור עצמות הנפש שנקרא בבחינת יחידה. That all of these soul powers, all of these different abilities and faculties and desires, all exist in detail, each one, every single one of them, not even one is missing, exist in בהעלם אור עצמות הנפש שנקרא בבחינת יחידה, in the hidden light of the essence of the soul which is called יחידה. In other words, that hidden in who you are, in the essence of your soul, is already all of these different desires and abilities.
Example of a Kind Person’s Intent 1:46
Like what? כמו על דרך דוגמה, כאשר האדם הוא חפץ חסד וטוב ולהיטיב בדבר פרט. Like for example, if a person is a nice guy, and they want to do a nice thing, they have a desire to do a nice thing. They want to help somebody. It's a cold winter day, and it's snowing, and they're sitting there drinking their hot cocoa with a marshmallow in it, and reading the paper.
And then, there's a knock at the door. So he puts down his paper, and he gets up with his fuzzy slippers, and he goes over to the door, and he opens the door, and there he sees this shivering wind, you know, and howling wind and everything, and snow's blowing into the house, and he sees this guy there shivering with tattered clothes. He brings the guy in, and he gives him hot cocoa, and wraps him up in blankets near the fire.
And then when the guy thaws out a little bit, he asks him what he can do for him. He says, "Oh, please kind sir, I need a coat. It's freezing and I don't have a coat." So he goes into his closet and gives him a warm fluffy down coat and some money to buy food, and he sends him off.
Kindness Demonstrated: The Story Summarized 3:08
That's the story that happened. So, he did this nice thing, שזהו בא מצד שיש בו מדה זו דחפץ חסד וטוב בבחינת עצמות נפשו הנקרא יחידה.
So if somebody asks you, "Why did he do this nice thing?" You'll tell him, "Because he's a nice guy. He's a nice person. He likes to help people."
And that's what we that's what it means, that because he has this מדה, this character trait of kindness in the essence of his soul, which is called יחידה.
That's the name of the highest level of soul. על כן בא חפץ חסד זה בגילוי מהעלמו, and therefore, because he's a nice guy, so this desire for kindness became revealed in this situation. If he was a mean guy, he would have slammed the door in his face, said, "Get a job!
Right? Don't bother me." You know, call security on him: "This guy's coming by bothering me." But he wasn't, he's a nice guy. So he did this.
The Yuli Power Within the Soul 4:23
מוכרח לומר, we must say, בודאי, with certainty, שחפץ חסד זה בעצמות נפשו, הוא בבחינת כח היולי בעצמיות. That this desire for kindness, the way that it's included in the essence of his soul, is what is in a way that is called a היולי power in his self.
What does it mean this היולי power? היולי means an essence that means that it's totally simple, and it's higher than any particular form, and therefore it can come into any, it can come out in anything, like we're going to explain. לכלול כל מה שעתיד לחפוץ בחסד וטוב, בכל בכל פרטי פרטי הענינים שיתבקשו ממנו. That it is an essential power within himself, and it includes everything that he is ever going to desire in goodness and kindness, with all the little, little detail things that are going to be asked from him.
Somebody's going to ask him to do a favor, any little favor that's ever going to be asked from him is included in this thing that he that that he he has kindness.
Kindness Not Divided Into Separate Desires 5:43
In other words, that we can't say that he has a particular desire and a particular power or a particular kindness for each thing that's going to be asked from him. It's not like that. It's not like he has a a desire to give this guy a coat and another and then, you know, the rest of the story is that this guy that he gave a coat, the next day he's sitting out on a park bench next to his friend, and his friend says, "You know, I really need shoes."
And he shows him his shoes, and they're like flappy, you know, like the the sole is coming off, and there's holes in it, and, you know, snow gets in, and it's cold, and he says, "Oh, why don't you go to this guy? He gave me look, he gave me this coat."
He says, "Well, I don't need a coat." He says, "Yeah, but, you know, he'll give you he'll give you shoes." He says, "Well, how do you know he'll give me shoes?" He said, "Cuz he gave me a coat."
He says, "Well, I already told you, I don't need a coat. I need shoes." He says, "No, but but he didn't give me a a coat because he has a kindness for coats." He says, "Well, then how did he give you a coat?" He said, "No, no, it's not that he doesn't have a kindness for coats that he can't give coats. He his kindness isn't for anything."
He says, "Well, then I definitely don't need him." He says, "No, no, it's not that his kindness isn't for anything that that he can't give it's not it can't come for anything, it means that it's higher than anything, it's a it's called a היולי.
That it that his kindness is just for whatever will be kind, that it's the essence of kindness means that he knows what kindness is, and whatever will be kind, so then he'll he'll want it. It doesn't really, you know, it doesn't really matter whether it's a shoe or a coat, it's all the same. If it's a kind thing to give the person, if in this situation it will be kind, then it doesn't matter what it is.
It'll come into anything. The desire for kindness will come into anything. It can come even into things that normally you don't think are kind.
So, like you know, if he's a surgeon, then it'll come into cutting people up, cuz sometimes that's kind. He he just knows what kindness is, and whatever will fit, whatever it will come out into, it will come out into.
So we must say so, so we must say this like an ess- an essence that includes all the details that are ever going to be asked from him, but not that they're in a way that they're ממש there. ואם כן, if so, בהכרח, we must we must say, שקודם שעלה ברצונו וחפצו זה שבגילוי להיטיב חסד בדבר זה הפרטי,
that before he had a desire to help this person in this particular way, to give him a coat, היה כלול בעצמיות חפץ חסד ההיולי,
this desire was already included in the essence of his היולי power of kindness, in his essential power of kindness within himself. In other words, that in that the part of identity of kindness is, that's what it is, that in such a situation, that's what it means: if you're a nice person in such a situation, that's what you'll do. It's already included there. ויצא מן ההיולי להתגלות בדבר פרטי זה.
And then, what happens is that when the situation arises that the person needs the coat, then it goes out from the essence, so now it's not just this thing that he wants kindness and that he's a nice person, but now it becomes revealed in this situation by being kind in that way. So, in this situation, the essence of kindness is expressed by giving him a coat.
In a different situation, it would be mean to give him a coat. But in this situation, if you're kind, you have to give him a coat. That's what a kind person will do.
And so we see that if a person really has kindness, it's an essence that includes everything, and therefore he'll want to do any kind thing that will ever come up and every kind thing that will ever come up.
And if he's missing even one פרט, even one detail, then it's not a real kindness. It can't even be missing the smallest thing. If it's missing the smallest thing, it's not kindness, it's an organization.
foundation. Like they have these foundations that give out coats. But it's not a real kindness, because there's not a person there that has a desire to be kind. It's just a system, and that they give out coats, and if a person comes and needs a shoe, they'll say, "Sorry, we don't give shoes."
Maybe one of the workers would be nice and like give them money, but as far as this the the foundation, they don't give it. That's not what they do.
You have to go to the next block, and it could be that a person could die of starvation on the doorstep, but that they they can't help him, that's not what they do.
So it's not a real kindness. It was started by a kind person, and it's doing it could be that it's helping, it's doing something good, but it itself is like a it's a machine.
It it doesn't have the essence of kindness, so you can't say that there's really a kindness there. Because because if it was a real kindness there, then it would come out however, whatever would be kind. If a person needs food, you give him food, too.
Kindness Extends to Providing Food 11:01
So if if there's a person that that's missing, if he says, "Okay, I'm a kind person, and I do everything, I'll do everything for you, but I won't give you shoes.
If a person comes, they need shoes, I won't do that," then that that that's not kindness. If they're missing even one thing, what do you mean? If you're if you're if you really want to be nice, if you really care, then whatever the person needs, you'll want to do.
And really, as far as the desire to be kind, that's the way it is, that the person will want to do anything. It could be you're going to say, well maybe you know, he has some thing about shoes, that's a separate thing. Really, as far as the kindness, he would want to do it, but maybe there's some other reason that stops him.
But if he has a thing of kindness, then he'll want to do it, whatever the person needs.
