Complexity of Widths and Lengths 0:00
Three separate widths besides having to understand that three lengths. First of all, the next thing you have to understand the width of two lengths, there's three of them. Right. Right. And only then you can go to understanding the the width of three lengths. Right.
Because the width of three lengths doesn't only include the width of of three separate lengths, it also includes the three separate widths of two lengths each. Right.
Right? So it's already you have to have 3 3, it's already six things now. Right. So in the first one where there's two, there's two, like two houses, two two stones build two houses. Right. So to to understand a width of two lengths, you have to understand two lengths.
Right. But three stones, so you have three widths, it's already
you have to understand more than that. And really there's even more than that, because there's three separate widths here. So besides having to understand the length of there's length one, length two, and length three.
Right. And then you have to understand the width of one, one and two, one and three, and two and three. Right. Okay, but then before you can even go to the three widths together, you have to understand in the three widths of two, you have to understand how one and two connects to two and three. Right. And how one and two connects to one and one and three.
And how one and three connects to two and three. So it's not six, it's already nine. Right. It's more than it's it's it's it's more than just combinations, these are like permutations, because besides having to understand how the lengths connect to each other separately, not the three of them, just two of them, you have to understand how the widths of two connect to each other, otherwise you don't have the full width of width of three.
And this is up to we're only up to three here. Right. The four already, it's like a lot more. Because first you have to understand each one of the four lengths, then you have to understand how the four
double lengths are, then there's a bunch of triple lengths. Right. And also there's a thing in the double lengths you have to understand how this double length goes with that double length and how this triple length goes with that triple length. Right. And then you have to understand how the and and even going back to three, so like for instance if you understand
like a double length, you also besides having to understand how the double length goes with with the other double length, you also have to understand how the double length goes with the other single length. Right.
And on the four already, so you also have to understand how the triple length goes with the double length, with another double length. Right. Like for instance, the length of 1, 2, and 3 with 3 and 4, how does that connect together? Right. So it gets so so the width gets more and more complicated as you as as you have more lengths to really understand it properly.
So, and the thing is, it's really all automatic.
לבוש Concepts: אלף and עין 4:03
And this is what we were talking about, the לבושי אור and the לבושי עור with the אלף and the עין, that what the the the thing is, they're both the same לבוש really. Right. It's not it's not that one is a לבוש and the other one is not a לבוש. They're both, and not only that, a לבוש with an עין and a לבוש with an אלף is ממש the same לבוש exactly.
Right. What does it mean a לבוש with an עין? A לבוש with an עין means when the explanation is too deep for you. Like when you teach a second-grade kid a fifth-grade explanation.
Right. So instead of explaining it to him, it actually makes a big בלבול in his head. Right, and he gets more confused. Right, it's not only that it doesn't explain it to him, but it actually covers up more than he was without the explanation.
Right. He gets actually more confused than he was before he had the explanation in the first place. Right. And besides the fact that they're trying to make חידושים and tying and trying to tie in different things together, one thing that they learned in ע"ב with another thing that they learned in תורה אור, with some other thing that they learned somewhere else, with a שיחה of the רבי, Right.
and they don't even realize that they might be talking about different things. It's different length. It's different explanations. Besides that, they really don't even have the length. The simple, one length the התבוננות of the one length. Right. Why? Because they started out with a fifth grade instead of starting out with kindergarten.
Understanding the 'Key' Before Aleph-Bet 5:49
Right. That means, what it means the key? The key means that's what you start with. It's not even כיתה א' yet. Key means it's not the אלף בית. Right. שערי אורה is אלף בית. The key means before the אלף בית. Just the basic to know what the basic code is Right. before you can get into the first principles.
And like we we already discussed about ע"ב, and ע"ב is very hard to keep the whole thing in your head. You can't keep the whole length. The whole thing of a length is you have to learn all the נקודות of the length and then have the whole length in your head at the one shot. Right. A width means you have to learn all the lines, and then have all of them together in your head in one shot.
Right. To make a שטח, really. A width is really not just a width, because if it was just a width, it would be a length. A width means with a length. It's a מרובע. It's not a line. It's a שטח. It's a plane. A width is actually a plane. It means that you already have the length. Right. Doesn't mean just a width without a length. There can't be such a thing that you only understand a bunch of נקודות.
It's not even a length if you understand a whole bunch of separate נקודות that don't have a length to it. And don't connect along the length, you can't connect along the width. Width really means a שטח.
Right. So, the basic thing is what they have and they understand it, נקודות, נקודות. Right. They don't understand the whole length of it. And then, what they do is they go, and even if you try to teach these people like a simple explanation in in like from שער היחוד, they go and they try to relate it to what it says in ע"ב, which means they want to do a width.
And really, even the length over there they don't understand. They don't understand not the length over there and not the length over here.
And they already want to be on a width. Right. That's basically what's happening over here. Because שער היחוד is a kindergarten book. Right. It's not even a first grade book. Right. It's the מפתחות. It means before you even go to to first grade, it's just to get you used to learning in the first place. Right. Just just to open up for you, it was just the opening.
מפתחות means opening. Nursery and kindergarten, where you don't even learn yet with the kids the actual אלף בית, you just play with them and you give them you let them paint an אלף, Right. and they sing songs and stuff like that. It's just openings.
Right. You know? So, if a person could actually understand the length of ע"ב, he certainly would be able to understand a kindergarten book like this.
Right. In the olden days Right. they said not to study קבלה and חסידות because it'll mix you up. And you'll make from the light dark, from the dark light, and you'll end up doing like שבתי צבי and becoming a Muslim, God forbid. You know? Or even if you stay a Jew, but you'll you'll mix it all up in your head, and you'll have a Judaism that's really an עבודה זרה, which most people do have.
It's like it's like my grandson. Now now he's a little bit more advanced, but like when he was two or three he started copping the ענין of letters.
Right. And I would be sitting there reading a book,
you know, like it could be a very complicated book like שער היחוד, or or ע"ב, or a חומש, or whatever, you know, and he would look and say, "Oh, look, an אלף." Right. And he saw Look, he saw he knows the אלף just like I know the אלף. Right. And that's the whole thing, they understand this tiny little אלף.
Superficial Letter Recognition vs Deep Understanding 9:50
That means, never mind they don't understand the ענין, they don't even understand the sentence, they don't even understand a word. They understand a letter. Right.
That's all they understand, that's what they're understanding. What they understand over there is the same like שולי understanding that this is an אלף. Right. And he looks, "Oh, here's another אלף!" Right. But this אלף and that אלף is two, by me it's two different אלף's because this is an אלף in one, one word and this is an אלף in another word. Right. Not only that, this other word is a part of a whole other ענין.
So it's a whole different אלף. And the same thing over there. They understand all kinds of things. They'll tell you things: a העלם שבמציאות and a העלם שלא במציאות. Right. You know, and התפשטות מן העצם, but this is just a letter. Right. They have no idea how it fits into anything. It's all בלבול in their head.
But what? Over there they don't see, over here it's such a small book that you can see that it's all בלבול in your head. Right.
You can see that just the fact that he said that
the a העלם שבמציאות and העלם שלא במציאות, you can see that you don't really understand what it has to do with what he's talking about. Right. And over there you think, because העלם שבמציאות is five chapters on it. Right. Not like over here that he just says העלם שבמציאות and he continues talking about the ענין, so you see that you really don't understand what the ענין is all about.
Right. Over there it's five chapters, it could be five chapters just on העלם שלא במציאות. Right. But those five chapters are really a part of 50 chapters on some ענין. Right.
You know, so they think they're understanding because they understood the five chapters. They say, "I understood five whole chapters over there." Right, and even the 50 chapters is only a פרט. Yeah, the 50 chapters is a word. Right.
This is a letter, and the 50 chapters is a word, you didn't even get to a sentence yet. Right. You don't even understand one sentence yet. It's like to just understand a word, but you don't understand nothing.
Like if I tell you "the". Right. "The" what? You know? Right. So the the basic thing over there is, you know, that that they're their understanding just like it's all נקודות, נקודות. And that's like it's it's and that's the same thing like שולי. You see, it's ממש the same thing. Like for שולי it doesn't matter where you open up the book. Right. Because he'll look and say, "There's an אלף, look!"
Anywhere he opens up the book he can find he can find little things that he knows. Right. And he knows that he gets a big pleasure out of it, "Oh, בית!" Right. "Oh, look, a עין!" Right.
You know, and it doesn't matter where you open up the book. Also it doesn't matter which book you open up. You can open up אמרי בינה, he understands just as good. Right.
You can open up ידיעות אחרונות, Right. same thing for him. Here's a אלף and here's a בית. Right. And you can open up a book by גרשם שלום, that's a total heresy, and by him also, here's a אלף and here's a בית. Right. ממש the same thing to him.
Makes no difference, it could be אמרי בינה,
it could be חובות הלבבות, or it could be ידיעות אחרונות. Right. Makes no difference. Over here you see that, wait a minute, these אלף and בית's it's not just a אלף and a בית. It's connected somehow. Right. I mean basically when you open up this book, you basically realize that you're not a human being.
Right. You don't even know how to think properly. You don't have no מחשבה עיונית. Till you learn this book you have no מחשבה עיונית. Basically what it's telling you it says, never mind you're a kindergarten kid, you're a בהמה. Right. And then when you start learning it a little bit you say, "Wait a minute, it's not even a בהמה." It's like, and this is what דוד המלך says, "ואנכי תולעת ולא איש."
Worm Metaphor and Self-Perception 14:46
Right. "I'm a worm." Right. I'm not even My relationship to really what it says here is Not even a בהמה. Right. Like a בהמה, a dog and a sheep has some understanding of humans.
Right. Like a dog, you see a dog, I mean, he doesn't ממש understand really what humans are. He can't go to college or something, but he can relate to humans, you know. Right.
He knows, you know, if you if you give them a big smile and you wag your tail, they'll give you a cookie. Right. So there's some kind of relationship. A בהמה has some kind of a relationship. Right. You see a cat, a dog, a sheep, they can relate to humans.
Even though still it's a בהמה, but still they can relate to humans. Right. A worm, a worm has no relationship to a human. Right. Even if you put him on your hand and he's crawling around, he doesn't even know he's crawling around on your hand. For all he knows, he could be he doesn't he's not even scared. Right. Like a squirrel is scared. Right. He's totally oblivious.
He's totally oblivious. He doesn't know what's going on at all. Right. You know. And that's what דוד המלך says: I'm a worm and not a person. Right. You know. And this is what basically happens over here.
It tells you you're a worm, you know. And this is what we were talking about yesterday, the פנימיות עצמות, you know. Right. In order to learn חסידות, and this is basically, you know, like
חסידות and the Need for מסירת נפש 16:29
you know, at the end of chapter, what was it, six, he was talking about that you have to have מסירת נפש. Right. מסירת נפש means to give up your רצון. נפש means רצון.
You read about this some places? נפש is רצון. Yeah. You know, that you have to give up that you have to give up your רצון and because your רצון is basically to be a big shot. Right.
